"... [beliefs] are powerful because they create the lens through which you see the world."
~~Steven R. Covey
Each person seeks counseling for different reasons. Each person has different strengths, skills and resiliencies. Everyone comes into my office with different goals, challenges or needs.
As your Counselor, my task is to help you define your own characteristics and then help you to recognize them and learn how to use them to your benefit in your daily life. I believe that your past can influence both your present and future. Our work together may involve looking at what may still be affecting you (past family dynamics, relationships, trauma) in ways that you may or may not not realize.
However, ultimately, you are living in the present moment and the present is where you create your current thoughts, perceptions and moods. This is also where you lay the groundwork for your desired future moments. We will concentrate on your strengths and how you can use them to create the life that you desire, right now and in your future.
In our sessions, you and I work together to recognize your wholeness. We work to promote your healing from the inside. This healing will then extend to your entire life, your outside world, as well. I hold no judgement nor criticism. I simply want to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
Counseling is a two way street and is a dynamic process. This means that it is very important that you come to session ready to participate and willing to work both in session and outside of session.
Working outside of session means that you consciously attempt to apply the skills that are discussed during our time together. You will exercise your strengths and work towards making specifically discussed 'changes' throughout each day. Doing this is the only true test to see what works best for you and your circumstances. If something is ineffective, it can be adjusted, changed or dropped. This is the way to most effectively create the changes you are looking for within your life...one step at a time.
You have the "leading role" in your life and you are the ultimate "author" of the story that you live each and every day. With this realization and acceptance, you are non-stoppable!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~~Margaret Mead

"If you want to be successful you must respect one rule: Never lie to yourself."
~~ Paul Coelho
It may seem odd that the beginning of this section would have a quote about "self", but this defines the foundation of my belief system about any relationship, which is that the quality of your relationships is directly related to the quality of the relationship you have with yourself.
Couples' Counseling is offered to those who are looking to improve their communication, intimacy and connection with one another and to those couples who would like to resolve conflicts that seem perpetual in their relationship.
Successful outcomes can occur when each person in the relationship is treated as two individuals who chose to be together and are willing to work together to create a different relationship.
Once this premise is honestly established, each individual accepts the responsibility to consciously apply productive thinking approaches to communication, trust and intimacy, as well as to the consistent commitment towards his/her significant other.
The potential advantages of Couples' Counseling can include, but are not limited to:
